Northeast Medical Center | Design, Creation + Installation of Wayfinding System for Pediatric Unit (B)
(Continued from previous slide.) For the elements installed flat to the wall, a separate system was utilized. The objective here was to engage the children and get their mind on something other than the reason they were in the hospital. So a text box template system- color coordinated by hall- was developed. For the older children, the text box on top included a "Fast Fact" about the particular animal on that hallway. The text box on the bottom had more of a "fun" statement for the younger children that could be read to them (if need be). In the end, this "walk-around", in which a nurse or family member accompanied a child to walk around and read all of the pieces, proved to be a great design success and, more importantly, made the hospital visit that much more enjoyable for the child.
